Ceramics Retreat

ceramics retreat

Thursday 14 th - Monday 18th JUNE 2018

A long weekend celebrating a rustic and traditional approach to working with clay. Led by artist and Maison Salvadore founder, Corinne, this special retreat uses ceramics as a way of inviting you to immerse yourself in a weekend of making through exploration and experimentation. Work independently or follow the activities, suitable for anyone who would like to spend time working with clay in a rustic way.

Our ceramics studio is set up much in the way that small potteries in the surrounding area were pre-second world war; humble but spacious, simple but authentic. We have a wood-burning kiln, which we will fire over the weekend using local felled trees. The aim of this retreat is to encourage creative play and artistic development. During your stay you will:

  • Make in studio spaces and outdoor terraces with views over the river and beautiful surrounding countryside, whilst gaining a deeper relationship with ceramic materials and processes.
  • Explore a number of experimental techniques that lend themselves to our studio, set up by working independently or following set activities.
  • Work with our special clays - a fine white earthenware produced nearby in Limoges and a mica rich red clay produced a little further south in the Haute-Provence.
  • Experiment with creating vessels in a variety of different ways. We also have a throwing wheel where beginners can learn and others can practice.
  • Use your free time to wander through the streets of our picturesque village or explore further afield on one of our vintage bicycles.

Designed to be invigorating but relaxing, this retreat will help those with existing creative practices to explore new avenues whilst also providing a nurturing environment for beginners to develop their own style.

This weekend will help you to slow down a little, swap skills, clarify your thoughts and find space for new ideas.
