How can I apply? How are artists selected?
At the moment we invite artists and writers through our network of partner organizations. In the future we plan to hold open calls.
Do artists pay for residencies?
invited artists do not pay for residencies at Salvadore. We do however accept unsolicited applications from artists, writers and performers who self-fund their own projects.
Can groups apply?
Yes. Salvadore is ideal for groups.
What disciplines do you accept?
We welcome any creative practice that would benefit from the use our facilities (see more about these in the site section).
Can I apply for my own funding?
Absolutely, but you must inform us before you do you, if you will feature the organizations name anywhere within the application, or in any public realm.
What equipment is available?
The ceramics studio has all the basic equipment you'd expect and a simple electric wheel, outside we have a wood-fired kiln.
Where can I buy materials and equipment?
The general rule is if you can bring it with you then do, we keep the ceramics studio well stocked and you can purchase materials directly from us, there is a also large scale specialist ceramics supplier in Limoges, and a number of timber and building merchants nearby.
What time is check in and check out?
Our check in time is from 15.00, checkout time by 11.00.
Are meals included?
Complimentary breakfast is included in your room rate. Additional meals may be possible with 24 hours notice, prices vary so please enquire for further details.
What is the nearest airport/train station?
The nearest airports are Poitiers or Limoges, Poitiers is also accessible by train. For more information and a map please click here.
Is parking available?
Guest parking is available on site, just in front of the house.
Can I bring pets?
We have two resident dogs, and pets are welcome at Salvadore.
Can I bring children?
Due to the nature and age of the house, for security reasons we cannot accept guests under the age of 16.
What is the cancellation policy?
Rooms are 50% refundable up to 7 days in advance. After 7 days the full amount is payable. If you do wish to cancel, please email us email@example.com as soon as possible in advance of your booking.
Do you have on site safety boxes?
We do not have lockers. L'isle Jourdain is a safe place with a community spirit, and each of our guest rooms has a lock on the door. However we cannot accept responsibility for any losses incurred during your stay.
What is there to see and do in the area?
Guests are welcome to use our bicycles to explore the local area, which is also perfect for walking. For more information with links to websites, please see our Location page.
How do I get to Salvadore?
As you approach Bourpeuil on the D10 (either direction L’isle Jourdain or under viaduct from Verriers ) You take the D8, Route De L’assemblee , just before or just after the viaduc, depending on the direction you arrive from. You follow the bend, and then take the first left (also Route De L’assemlee) It is marked residents only but you have the right. You pass a big white house on the left, the shutters are blue, and there is a sign above the door. Ring the door bell, we have two dogs who are very friendly but will make a lot of noise when you arrive – think of it as an enthusiastic welcome!
Is there local transportation?
The closest train station is Lussac-les-Châteaux, which is 20 kilometers away. From there you can get trains which connect to Poitiers, Paris Limgoes connecting across france, there are also a limited number of buses that run daily from there to L’isle Jourdain. There are also a number of local taxi companies:
Retreat guests have access to the attic studio and the ceramics studio and the other workshops and kitchen if relevant to the course. Hotel guests do not have access to the attic studio but can utilize the ceramics studio for an additional fee. All guests can access the large communal dining and lounge area, the courtyard, garden and terraces.
Where will I stay during my residency?
You will stay in the same rooms as paying retreat and hotel guests, you can see more details on the rooms section.
Who owns and runs the Salvadore centre?
The Maison Salvadore is owned by Corinne Aivazian, who co-runs the space with Lia Walton and the arts foundation with Shiraz Bayjoo.
Can I volunteer at Salvadore?
Yes, we accept enquirers through workaway, you can visit our profile here. For those who wish to join the association we can offer lodging and two meals a day in exchange for 25 hours of work a week, from anybody who has specialst skills that could benefit Salvadore and our programme.
